Governor Ivey Proclaims First Responders Day, Honors Alabamians Who Answer the Call
MONTGOMERY – Governor Kay Ivey on Wednesday proclaimed October 28, 2026, as First Responders Day in Alabama, honoring the men and women who protect lives and property and serve their fellow Alabamians in times of need.
The proclamation recognizes firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical technicians, 911 dispatchers and the entire public safety community, including correctional offices and K-9 teams. It also honors their families, whose steadfast support and personal sacrifices make that service possible.
“Most Alabamians will never know the name of the dispatcher who sent help or the first responder who stood ready while their family slept. But when the call comes, we trust them with everything,” said Governor Ivey. “Behind every uniform is someone with a family waiting at home, yet they show up for ours. That is an extraordinary commitment, and I hope every Alabama first responder knows how much it means to the people they serve.”
Throughout her tenure, Governor Ivey has worked with the Legislature to strengthen support for Alabama’s first responders through investments in emergency equipment and training, firefighter cancer coverage, tax relief for qualifying volunteer first responders, scholarship benefits for law enforcement families and increased pay for correctional officers. She has also signed legislation supporting the EMS workforce and authorizing emergency medical care and transport for police dogs injured in the line of duty.
Governor Ivey encourages Alabamians to join her in thanking first responders who serve their communities each day.
