Governor Ivey Continues Back-to-School Tour, Celebrates Student Achievement
MONTGOMERY — Governor Kay Ivey continued her Back-to-School Tour this week with visits to Charles A. Brown and Hemphill Elementary Schools in Birmingham and Chastang-Fournier K-8 School in Mobile. During each visit, Governor Ivey emphasized the importance of literacy and celebrated student achievement.
On Wednesday, Governor Ivey joined school system superintendents, principals and other members of school system leadership at the Turnaround Academy Kickoff in Prattville. The Turnaround Academy is comprised of school leaders from the 15 Governor’s Turnaround Schools Initiative. During this event, Governor Ivey highlighted the importance of this initiative’s success and recognized the progress already being made.
Governor Ivey has visited most of the schools that are taking part in the Governor’s Turnaround Schools Initiative. She will visit the remaining schools in the coming weeks.
“I have had the privilege of visiting schools from Mobile all the way to Huntsville and have witnessed firsthand the progress we are making in providing Alabama’s students a top-notch education,” said Governor Ivey. “Our teachers, school leaders and most importantly, our students are focused on making great strides in literacy and mathematics. I am optimistic that we are well on our way to accomplishing our goals and then some. Make no mistake about it: Strong students lead to a strong Alabama.”
