Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama
WHEREAS, Talladega Superspeedway has been an Alabama tradition since 1969; and
WHEREAS, a member of the Earnhardt family has competed at Talladega since 1978; and
WHEREAS, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has competed at Talladega Superspeedway since 1998; and
WHEREAS, Dale Earnhardt Jr. ranks second on Talladega Superspeedway’s all-time wins list, with six wins, second only to his father Dale Earnhardt Sr., with 10 wins; and
WHEREAS, Talladega Superspeedway was the first major NASCAR track where Dale Earnhardt Jr., made his first practice laps, long before entering NASCAR’s top racing series; and
WHEREAS, though his fans number in the millions, Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s largest contingency of fans reside in Alabama; and
WHEREAS, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has acknowledged the importance of Talladega Superspeedway in the world of sports, and its incredible effect on tourism in the State of Alabama, as Talladega Superspeedway draws fans from all 50 U.S. States and more than 20 countries; and
WHEREAS, Dale Earnhardt Jr. is an official honorary member of the “Alabama Gang”; and
WHEREAS, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has called Talladega Superspeedway “a second home”; and
WHEREAS, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has left an eternal mark on Talladega Superspeedway and the State of Alabama, by bringing to the state fans from across the globe to watch him compete at the highest level. Furthermore, it is proper and right to acknowledge Alabama’s special relationship with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the Earnhardt family:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kay Ivey, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim October 15, 2017, as
Dale Earnhardt Jr. Day
in the State of Alabama, in recognition of his success in the sport of stock car racing, and for his love and enduring support of Talladega Superspeedway, the people of Alabama, and the State of Alabama.
