Principals Month

Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama
WHEREAS, the Alabama Association of Elementary School Administrators, the Alabama Association of Middle School Principals, and the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals have declared October 2017, as National Principals Month in coordination with the efforts of the National Association of Elementary School Principals and the National Association of Secondary School Principals working with the United States Congress to designate National Principals month and resolutions thereof; and
WHEREAS, the vision, dedication and determination of a principal provides the motivating force behind any school reform effort. Principals are expected to be educational, visionary leaders; instructional leaders; assessment experts; disciplinarians; community builders; public relations experts; budget analysts; facility managers; special program administrators; and guardians of various legal, contractual , and policy mandates and initiatives; as well as being entrusted with our young people, our most valuable asset; and
WHEREAS, principals set the academic tone for their schools and work collaboratively with teachers to develop and maintain rigorous academic and curricular goals, develop mission statements, and set performance goals and objectives for schools to achieve educational excellence; and
WHEREAS, principals work tirelessly in communities across Alabama to maintain academic integrity and accountability, to ensure a safe and productive learning environment, and to encourage and facilitate teachers’ and parents’ efforts to make a positive difference in the lives of young people; and
WHEREAS, in celebration of National Principals Month, the State of Alabama honors elementary, middle, and high school principals and recognizes the importance of school leadership in ensuring that every child has access to a high-quality education; and
WHEREAS, the State of Alabama recognizes outstanding elementary, middle, and high school principals who have succeeded in providing high-quality learning opportunities for students as well as their exemplary contributions to the profession; and
WHEREAS, to honor and recognize the contributions of all school principals and assistant principals at all grade levels, to the success of students in Alabama’s elementary, middle, and high schools; and to encourage residents of Alabama to observe National Principals Month with appropriate ceremonies and activities that promote awareness of school leadership in ensuring that every child has access to a high-quality education:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kay Ivey, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim October 2017, as
Principals Month
in the State of Alabama.
