Patriot Day
Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama
WHEREAS, the 16th observance of Patriot Day will be held on Monday, September 11th, 2017, with the name “Cry Out America” based on Joel 1:14; and
WHEREAS, designation of September 11th as Patriot Day by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United State Congress, sets forward this day each year to display the flag of the United States at half-staff and to pray for our nation’s citizens and leaders, remembering our losses and lifting up those who protect us; and
WHEREAS, the United States Congress, by Public Law 107-89, in 2001, requests the President of the United States to issue a proclamation each year calling on state and local governments to observe Patriot Day; and
WHEREAS, leaders and citizens of our nation are afforded the privilege of prayer, affirming our spiritual heritage and the principles upon which our nation was founded; and
WHEREAS, recognizing the love and power of God, we unite with fellow citizens to exercise the freedom we have to gather in prayer with thankfulness while seeking guidance, provision, protection and purpose for the benefit of every individual and our state as a whole for peace throughout our state, nation and world:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kay Ivey, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim September 11th 2017, as
Patriot Day
in the State of Alabama.
