Driving Force Women’s Golf Club Day
Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama
WHEREAS, the Driving Force Women’s Golf Club was officially founded in 2007 by Margie L. Lee with the assistance of Sandy Osborne, Hattie Robinson, and Dr. Essie McGhee in Montgomery, AL to encourage and introduce women of color to the game of golf; and
WHEREAS, the DFWGC is the first and largest organized women’s golf club in Montgomery and in the State of Alabama, with associate members from various regions of the state including Huntsville and Mobile; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the DFWGC is to enhance women’s knowledge about the game of golf, improve skills, enjoy camaraderie with other Driving Force Women’s Club members, enter into competition with other clubs or groups and expose and mentor youth golfers to all aspects to the game of golf; and
WHEREAS, the DFWGC provides annual donations to Alabama State University’s golf program along with volunteering and supporting several local golf tournaments and charities around the state of Alabama; and
WHEREAS, the DFWGC is heavily involved in supporting local community events that are focused on the youth in the state of Alabama:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kay Ivey, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim July 15, 2017, as
Driving Force Women’s Golf Club Day
in the State of Alabama in honor of Driving Force Women’s Golf Club’s 10th anniversary.
