Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month & Paint the Town Purple for Alzheimer’s Week

Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama
WHEREAS, as many as five million Americans, including more than 90,000 Alabamians, are living with Alzheimer’s disease and that number grows every 66 seconds; and
WHEREAS, Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, and the only leading cause of death that cannot be cured, prevented, or even slowed; and
WHEREAS, researchers are working diligently to develop accurate ways to diagnose and treat Alzheimer’s disease; and
WHEREAS, Researchers are making great progress in developing ways to accurately diagnose and treat Alzheimer’s disease, and we need to accelerate the pace of that research if we are going to have a disease-altering treatment in the next 15 years; and
WHEREAS, the Fourth Annual River Region Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place on October 15, 2017; and
WHEREAS, The Alzheimer’s Association is marking June as Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month and asking residents of Montgomery to visit www.alz.org to learn more about Alzheimer’s and to join the fight against this devastating disease by decorating their storefronts and spaces with purple as well as to wear purple to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kay Ivey, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim the month of June, 2017, as
Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month
and the week of June 11 through 17, 2017 as
Paint the Town Purple for Alzheimer’s Week
in the State of Alabama.
