Women-Owned Business Day
Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama
WHEREAS, the national growth of women owned businesses is 68 percent with 1,288 new women-owned business starts each year; and
WHEREAS, Alabama ranks 15th in the nation for women-owned businesses with a growth rate of 42.5 percent; and
WHEREAS, there are an estimated 153,000 women-owned firms in Alabama, employing more than 111,000 people with combined sales of $19 billion; and
WHEREAS, the State of Alabama values entrepreneurial businesses and seeks to celebrate growth in business ownership among women in the community
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kay Ivey, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim May 17, 2017, as
Women-Owned Business Day
in the State of Alabama.
