National Water Safety Month
Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama
WHEREAS, National Water Safety Month is an annual awareness campaign coordinated by the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals with support from the National Recreation & Parks Association, the American Red Cross and the World Waterpark Association; and
WHEREAS, these organizations represent businesses and other individuals and agencies involved in bringing safe, enjoyable aquatic activities to the American public; and
WHEREAS, according to the Centers for Disease Control, ten people die from unintentional drownings every day; and
WHEREAS, about one in five people who die from drowning are children 14 and younger; and
WHEREAS, for every child who dies from drowning, another five receive emergency department care for nonfatal submersion injuries; and
WHEREAS, National Water Safety Month will be celebrated through educational programs, public service announcements, governmental proclamations, dealer and business promotions and the distribution of water-safety-themed materials aimed primarily at the public:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kay Ivey, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim May 2017, as
National Water Safety Month
in the State of Alabama.
