Beef for Father’s Day
Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama
WHEREAS, the beef cattle industry is one of the largest segments of the agricultural community, consisting of over 17,000 cattle farms statewide and representing a $2.5 billion industry; and
WHEREAS, cash receipts from the sale of cattle and calves in 2016 reached $558 million, which ranks second in cash farm income among Alabama farm commodities; and
WHEREAS, Alabama has more than 1,300,000 head of cattle and calves and ranks 16th in the United States in beef cow numbers; and
WHEREAS, there are over 30 lean cuts of beef containing high levels of zinc, iron, protein, B-vitamins and minerals; and
WHEREAS, the beef industry in response to consumer demands, continues to develop versatile, healthy, and high-quality beef products; and
WHEREAS, Alabama cattle producers make a vital contribution to the economy of Alabama by raising healthy cattle and preserving the land for the next generation; and
WHEREAS, the 11,500 members of the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association and Alabama CattleWomen’s Association encourage the people of Alabama to join with them in serving beef on Father’s Day:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kay Ivey, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim June 18, 2017, as
Beef for Father’s Day
in the State of Alabama.
