Proclamation

By the Governor of Alabama

WHEREAS, correctional officers and Department of Corrections employees are capable, committed, patient and persistent professionals who serve admirably in correctional facilities all across the state as chaplains, teachers, counselors, supervisors, managers, directors and commissioners; and

WHEREAS, the men and women who serve the Department of Corrections place the welfare of others before their own personal interest while keeping our citizens and communities safe; and

WHEREAS, though the job of correctional officers and employees is often very challenging and, at times, stressful, the thousands who work in the corrections profession every day perform their duties well and with great pride; and

WHEREAS, the brave professionals who put their lives at risk every day to keep the public safe, provide a multitude of services to incarcerate, manage and rehabilitate offenders and are owed our state’s gratitude; and

WHEREAS, correctional officers and employees of the Department of Corrections are most deserving of our respect, our thanks, and the highest praise for making a difference in our communities; and

WHEREAS, we commend the correctional officers and employees who currently serve in the Alabama Department of Corrections and those who have given their lives in pursuit of this honorable profession:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kay Ivey, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim May 7th through May 13th, 2017, as

Correctional Officers and Employees Week

in the State of Alabama.
