Domestic and International Adoption Awareness Month

Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama
WHEREAS, according to Lifeline Children’s Services, there are approximately 153 million children in crisis of becoming an orphan in the world. In addition, there are 7 million orphans in institutional care internationally; and
WHEREAS, the State of Alabama believes all children deserve the chance to reach their full potential, and we have a fundamental responsibility to ensure each of them grows up knowing the love and protection of a permanent family; and
WHEREAS, in Alabama, there are nearly 6,500 children in foster care; and
WHEREAS, all children need and deserve the love, nurturing, and a sense of security that can only come from being a part of a loving, permanent family; and
WHEREAS, adoption provides a unique joy and a special opportunity for individuals to open their hearts and their homes for the rest of their lives to children; and
WHEREAS, we recognize the sacrifice made by birth parents to provide their children with a better life; and
WHEREAS, as a State, we give a voice to children who are still waiting for the opportunity to be adopted, celebrate the bond that unites adoptive parents with their sons and daughters, and recommit to providing every child with the care and security that will nurture their development and well-being;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kay Ivey, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim November 2017, as
Domestic and International Adoption Awareness Month
in the State of Alabama.
