EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 704Moving Office of Broadband Development to ADECA
WHEREAS, Executive Order Number 9, dated July 16, 2015, established the Office of Broadband Development, which succeeded to the mission of the Alabama Broadband Initiative created by Executive Order Number 42, dated May 22, 2008;
WHEREAS, the mission of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) includes the planning, evaluation, review, and coordination of programs and projects for building stronger Alabama communities, including the oversight and administration of financial assistance for infrastructure improvements and other community development programs;
WHEREAS, the Legislature established ADECA to streamline and professionalize the management of such programs and projects administered by the State, consolidating numerous agencies into a single department;
WHEREAS, the duties, responsibilities, and functions of the Office of Broadband Development are important and needed, but those duties, responsibilities and functions align with the mission of ADECA; and
WHEREAS, the assumption of the duties, responsibilities, and functions of the Office of Broadband Development by ADECA will allow the mission of the Office of Broadband Development to be carried out in a more efficient and effective manner, consistent with the Legislative purposes for which ADECA was established;
NOW, THEREFORE, based upon these considerations, and for other good and valid reasons related thereto, I, Kay Ivey, Governor of the State of Alabama, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of Alabama, do hereby rescind Executive Order Number 9, dated July 16, 2015, and Executive Order Number 42, dated May 22, 2008.
BE IT FURTHER ORDERED that the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs hereby assumes all the powers, duties, responsibilities, authority, and obligations heretofore belonging to the Office of Broadband Development created by Executive Order Number 9, dated July 15, 2016.
BE IT FURTHER ORDERED that this Executive Order shall become effective immediately upon its execution and shall remain in effect until amended, modified or rescinded by the Governor.
