Military Stability Foundation Elects Mitchell as New Chairman
MONTGOMERY, Alabama (December 18, 2015) – Lieutenant Governor Kay Ivey, Chairman of the Alabama Job Creation and Military Stability Commission (MSC), announces the recent election of John Mitchell of Enterprise as Chairman of the Alabama Military Stability Foundation (MSF).
MSF is a private, non-profit organization established to serve as the day-to-day operational arm of MSC. The two organizations work together to develop and implement measures to retain and strengthen Alabama’s military assets in the face of any potential cuts due to the impending Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process. MSF estimates that Alabama’s military installations contribute 17 billion dollars to the state’s economy.
John Mitchell replaces Mike Ward, who has completed his term as Chairman and will continue to serve on the Foundation Board.
Lieutenant Governor Ivey applauds Mike Ward for his service to the Foundation.
“Mike has done an exceptional job running the Foundation since 2013. We appreciate all of his hard work in maintaining a military-friendly community in Alabama,” said Lt. Governor Ivey. “I look forward to continuing our work together.”
Ward has played an integral role in the Military Stability Foundation receiving a one million dollar grant from the United States Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment. The grant is now being used for defense industrial mapping and Job Station workforce development to assist people who have been laid off from positions in military installations. During his term, MSF also completed strategic assessments of the State’s Guard and Reserve flying units.
Mitchell owns and operates five automobile dealership franchises and one used car dealership in the Wiregrass. He has served on the Military Stability Foundation Board since December 2012.
“While serving the Enterprise and Fort Rucker communities in many capacities through over the years, I have gained great knowledge of the importance of military bases to the State’s economy,” said Mitchell. “I will ensure over the next two years that the foundation works to protect and grow our military installations in the State.”
“John has been a key member on the Board and understands our need for advancing our military assets in Alabama,” said Lt. Governor Ivey.
Mitchell has previously served at the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce President and Enterprise/ Coffee County Economic Development Corporation Chairman. Mitchell and his wife, Beverly, reside in Enterprise, Alabama, and have three children and seven grandchildren.
