Building a World-Class Education System

Alabama has experienced more success in education during the past five years than at any time in our recent history, making our education system stronger than ever. In order to ensure that our children will be able to compete in this global economy, we must continue building a strong education system that has one mission—giving our children the tools they need to succeed. Nationally renowned programs like the Alabama Reading Initiative, the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative and ACCESS Distance Learning are revolutionizing the way our children learn.  Read more



Economic Growth


During the past five years, Alabama’s economy has experienced unprecedented growth with more than 120,000 new jobs created statewide. Just last year, Alabama announced 441 new and expanding industries which are investing an historic $6.7 billion in our state. Unemployment reached its lowest level in history in 2007 and personal incomes are rising at a rate faster than any other Southern state. To ensure Alabama’s progress continues, Governor Riley is proposing tax relief that will target middle class families and promote small business growth.

Ethics Reform

Government must have the trust of the people it serves. Governor Riley has worked to make government more accountable, ethical and honest since he first came into office. He brought together a world-class Cabinet and gave them one order – in every instance, do what is right. They have led by example by adhering to a Code of Ethics for all Cabinet and staff. Governor Riley is the only Alabama governor to ever voluntarily disclose flight logs and spending out of the contingency fund.  Read more
