Government must have the trust of the people it serves. Governor Riley has worked
to make government more accountable, ethical and honest since he first came into
office. He brought together a world-class Cabinet and gave them one order – in every
instance, do what is right. They have led by example by adhering to a Code of Ethics
for all Cabinet and staff. Governor Riley is the only Alabama governor to ever voluntarily
disclose flight logs and spending out of the contingency fund. With SMART Budgeting,
there is planning on the front end and performance monitoring on the back end for
every program and agency that receives taxpayer funds. And in every legislative session, Governor Riley has continually pushed for even more ethics reforms, including proposals to ban PAC-to-PAC transfers, stop pass-through
pork, require full disclosure of lobbyists’ spending on public officials and end
Double Dipping in the legislature.
