Doni Ingram brings 27 years of economic and community development
experience to
the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs
where she was appointed
director by Governor Bob Riley in June 2009. She was ADECA's
assistant director
for the previous six years and served briefly as acting director
in 2006.
Her goal as director and assistant director is to improve the lives of all
Alabamians and to help create new jobs, particularly in rural areas. Ingram
serves as executive director of the Black Belt Action Commission, which was
created by Gov. Riley in 2004 to improve living standards in 12 of Alabama's
most economically-stressed counties.
At ADECA she also has chaired the Workforce Development Youth Council and the
Governor's Alabama Youth Task Force.
A Troy native, Ingram established and served as executive director of the Pike
County Chamber of Commerce. She also created and managed the Crenshaw County
Economic and Industrial Authority. In both positions she was instrumental in
recruiting new industry and helping in the expansion of existing businesses. She
has been a member of the Alabama Prepared Cities state team and the Economic
Developers Association of Alabama.
While industrial development remains a passion, her service on numerous boards
reflects her ranging interest in improving Alabama and making the state a better
place to live. She has served on the
Alabama State Textbook Committee, the
Alabama Association of School Boards, the Alabama Reunion Committee, the
Governor's Advisory Council for Small Business, the Alabama Attorney General's
Alliance Against Drugs Task Force, the city of Troy Board of Education, and
served as project coordinator for the Alabama Film Commission.
Ingram attended Troy University, the University of Georgia, Georgia Technical
Institute and the University of Oklahoma, all in economics, organizational
management, and community and economic development. She also is a graduate of
the National Development Council, Finance Professional school.
Ingram is married to Maj. Gen. (Ret. USAR) Charles A. Ingram and they have four
grown children:
Chuck, Rhea, Morgan and Lawrence and six grandchildren: Alex,
Austin, Romie, Carter, Riley and Cam. The Ingrams are active members of the Troy
United First Methodist Church.
