Irene Collins came highly recommended to the administration as a result of her committed work with the Jefferson County Council on Aging.

From 1996 until her current appointment, Collins served as executive director of the Jefferson County Council on Aging and administered its programs to assist seniors in the area. The council’s Meals on Wheels program consists of 65 routes throughout the Jefferson County area staffed by more than 1,000 volunteers who provide 600 meals daily to homebound seniors in Jefferson County.

She serves on the board of directors of the National Association of Nutrition and Aging Services Program and is a member of the National Association of Meals on Wheels and the National Council on Aging. She also serves as executive director of Ms. Senior Alabama.

Collins is the recipient of the Social Security Administration’s Southeastern Public Service Award, Jefferson State Community College’s Community Service Award and the Jefferson County Wellness Council Award.
