Byard stepped down from his elected position as Prattville’s mayor at the
close of business and assumed his new responsibilities at ADECA on January
18, 2011.
Byard was first elected to the Prattville City Council in 1992 and
reelected in 1996. He was elected by fellow Council members as president of
the Council in 1996 and served until becoming mayor in 1999 after the death
of Incumbent Mayor David Whetstone, Jr. Prior to becoming mayor, he worked
for the Alabama State Department of Transportation.
He was elected Mayor of Prattville in 2000 and reelected in 2004 and
2008.
Byard served on the board of directors of the National League of Cities
and was president of the Alabama League of Municipalities in 2004-2005. He
is a founding board member of the Alabama Municipal Funding Corporation
(AMFund).
He is a graduate of Troy State University with a Bachelors Degree in
political science. He and his wife, Beverly, and a daughter and two sons
live in Prattville.
